Swedish winter is a season associated with endless darkness and scary cold weather. But there is so much more to winter than just the frosty weather and short days, there’s a certain warmth that only a Swedish winter can offer. In that spirit, here’s a little poem I wrote to capture what the Swedish winter truly feels like to me. It also includes hidden tips on how to make the most out of it! Hopefully, I manage to show you the good side of winter that might just make you fall in love with this season.

Winter morning

When you wake up in the morning, it’s still dark.

It’s like the world is peacefully sleeping, only you are up.

By lighting up a candle and with a hot cup of tea, you welcome another winter day.

You realise Swedish winter is not really scary, it’s truly a winter holiday.

You need to get dressed, you’re meeting with your friends today.

So put on that warm jacket and get on your way.

You freak out on your way because you forgot your glove.

It doesn’t stop you though from touching that cold white snow.

It melts on your hands as if it’s right on the stove.

This winter wonderland is like the best entertainment show.

Spending time outside

You take your walks real slow because you enjoy the cold smell of snow.

Even if the temperature is 0°C or way down below.

And as it’s getting dark, you make exciting plans for tomorrow.

You could take a trip to see the frozen Stockholm.

Or stroll through the small town that you now call your home.

Stop by a nice coffee place to get “fika” and something warm.

Or you could go skiing to spend the day outdoors.

No door is closed, the options are unlimited.

Winter sports cannot be omitted.

Cosy study sessions

But even with no snow, when the winter is just cold and dark.

You can sit by the window and focus on your schoolwork.

Because in Sweden, there is no shame in becoming a dork. 😄

And I’m running out of rhymes, so to summarise…

You should fall in love with Swedish winter

because Sweden is a winter paradise.
