Recently, I stepped out of my comfort zone and attended a CreativeMornings event in Gothenburg at the West Chamber of Commerce. Honestly, I was really nervous to go alone, not knowing anyone there. But from the moment I arrived, I was met with warm smiles, engaging conversations, and a welcoming atmosphere that instantly made me feel at ease. Not only was it an inspiring way to start the day, but it also turned out to be an incredible networking opportunity. Here’s why I think you should attend a CreativeMornings event as a student in Sweden.

What Is CreativeMornings?

CreativeMornings is the world’s largest creative community, hosting free events in cities worldwide once a month on a Friday morning. Each month, a global theme is explored, with local branches selecting speakers to share their insights and experiences. These events are designed to spark creativity and meaningful connections. In Sweden, you can attend in Stockholm, Gothenburg, or Malmö. Check out upcoming events on their website.

My experience at CreativeMornings Gothenburg

The theme when I attended the event was “Journey”, and the talk focused on intercultural communication – specifically the relationship between Sweden and China. The speakers, Chengyashu Huang and Stefan Lundin, emphasised the importance of understanding and respecting different cultures, something that resonated deeply with me as an international student in Sweden. Learning about real-world cultural interactions and the challenges businesses face when working across borders was truly eye-opening.

The event also offered a free breakfast, which made it easy to chat with others in a relaxed setting. I met people from various industries, exchanged ideas, and left feeling inspired and motivated.

Why students should attend the event

If you’re an international student in Sweden looking to learn something new, meet interesting people, or just start your morning with something inspiring, CreativeMornings could be just what you’re looking for. Here’s why:

It’s completely free!

Thanks to local and global partners, CreativeMornings events remain free of charge, which means you can learn a lot, network with professionals or creatives, and often also have a nice breakfast on a student budget!

Networking opportunities

In Sweden, everything is about networking. So if you are hoping to find a part-time job during your studies, the more people you meet the better. On this event, you get to meet professionals, creatives, but also fellow students who share your interests. You never know what can come out of it.

A meaningful break from routine

Instead of scrolling through your phone in the morning, start your day with fresh ideas and inspiring stories. The events are often in the morning before 10 AM, so people get to attend before work or school and start the day right, with a nice cup of coffee and a spoonful of inspiration.

Learn something new

Each event covers a different topic, offering unique insights into various industries and creative fields.

How to join

Attending a CreativeMornings event is simple: just find the local chapter in your city, register online (spots go fast!), and show up. You’ll walk away with a fresh perspective, new connections, and maybe even an idea that sparks your next project. So set your alarm, grab a coffee, and start your day with inspiration! They also often look for volunteers to help with the events, so if you are interested in volunteering, don’t hesitate to reach out to them.

Does all this sound interesting? Find a CreativeMornings event near you and experience it for yourself.
