Recognition of foreign diplomas and degrees

How are international qualifications evaluated in Sweden?

Do I meet the entry requirements for my programme?

When you apply to study in Sweden, entry requirements for your programme will be indicated. In some cases, you may not be sure how your previous studies match up with what is required, or how they’ll be evaluated.

Your previous studies will be officially evaluated after you’ve applied, and a preliminary evaluation of your qualifications isn’t possible. To gain a general understanding of how your previous studies match up with the requirements, a good first step is to check Universityadmissions.se’s country-specific information:

If you’re still not sure about what applies, you can contact the programme coordinator for your programme to find out more. However, bear in mind that your credentials will not be officially evaluated until after you have applied.

Official evaluation of foreign diplomas and degrees

After you submit your application and supporting documentation, the university you’ve applied to will assess your eligibility for the relevant programmes or courses. Your grades will be translated into the Swedish grading scale using set formulas.

Visit Universityadmissions.se to learn more about the evaluation process.

Recognition of foreign degrees for purposes other than studies

The Swedish Council for Higher Education (Universitets- och högskolerådet, UHR) is responsible for the recognition of international qualifications. UHR can assess international post-secondary vocational qualifications to assist those living in Sweden who need their qualifications recognised in order to find work in Sweden. Visit UHR’s website directly to learn more about the application process.
