Are you a new student planning to arrive at Gothenburg’s Landvetter Airport? Wondering what awaits you once you land? Whether your university offers an airport pickup or not (make sure to ask), arriving in a new country can be overwhelming. But don’t worry, this blog will guide you through everything you need to know about getting from Landvetter Airport to your campus in West Sweden. From major universities like the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers, to others located in nearby cities like Borås, Skövde, Jönköping, and Halmstad. Just find your university below and follow the steps to reach your new home smoothly and hopefully stress-free.
University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology
If you’re studying at the University of Gothenburg or Chalmers, you’re in luck, these two universities are located right in central Gothenburg, just 25 km from Landvetter Airport. That makes the journey straightforward, fast, and well-connected by public transport.
Airport Bus (Flygbussarna)
Where to catch it: Just outside the arrivals terminal.
Destination: Choose a stop like Korsvägen, Berzeliigatan, or Nils Ericson Terminalen, all are centrally located and close to university campuses. Nils Ericson Terminalen might be the best option if you are just arriving in Gothenburg for the first time, to get to know the city center.
Tickets: Buy at machines inside the terminal, online on their website, or via the Flygbussarna app (it’s cheaper online or via the app).
Price: Around 119-139 SEK (discounts with return tickets/Mecenat).
Travel time: ~25-30 minutes.
Tip:
Korsvägen is ideal for Chalmers Johanneberg campus.
Nils Ericson Terminalen connects you to trams and buses across the city.

Västtrafik To Go app
Gothenburg and the entire Västra Götaland region have an excellent tram, bus, and train network, and both Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg have multiple campuses across the city. The Västtrafik To Go app is the easiest way to buy local tickets and plan your route once you’re downtown.

University West
If you’re heading to University West, located in Trollhättan, your journey from Landvetter Airport will take a bit longer, but it’s still very manageable by public transport. Trollhättan is a small city about 75 km north of Gothenburg, known for its student-friendly vibe and cosy town center.
Bus + Train
Step 1: Take the Flygbussarna airport bus from Landvetter to Gothenburg Central Station (Nils Ericson Terminalen).
Step 2: From Gothenburg Central Station, take a Västtågen or SJ regional train to Trollhättan Station.
Travel time: ~1-1.5 hours
Train ticket price: Around 100-130 SEK
Trains run frequently throughout the day.
Step 3: Walk from Trollhättan Station to University West (about 10–15 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by bus).
