What is Karlstad University best known for?
We strive to constantly challenge the established and explore the unknown. That means you, too. We want you to discover new things about yourself and the world and challenge yourself to be the best you can be.
Our university is known for its close interaction with the community around us, and all of our education and research is underpinned by a close dialogue with public organisations and private businesses.
We have two campuses: Karlstad and Arvika. Karlstad is the main campus, and one of the most inspiring study environments in the country, with modern architecture and high-tech facilities. In Arvika, you will find Ingesund School of Music, where many famous Swedish musicians have studied.
Studying with us, you will join around 16,000 other students in a vibrant student culture, a relaxed and informal familiarity among teachers and students, and a beautiful student city with plenty of room for adventure.
What kind of programmes does Karlstad University offer?
We offer a number of master’s programmes taught in English, focusing on Economics, Computer Science, Service Management, Geomedia and Business Administration. We also offer a wide range of courses in English, ranging from Business Administration and the Humanities to Engineering and Science.
What’s the alumni network like?
The alumni network at Karlstad University brings together existing and former students and employees at the university. With over 30,000 members all over the world, it’s a collaborative programme and an opportunity to share experiences and develop your professional network. Alumni often visit our campuses for guest lectures and participation in various events.
Some famous alumni include Stefan Holm, former Olympic and World Champion in high jump; Rigmor Gustafsson, jazz singer; Anna Hedenmo, tv presenter; and Urban Ahlin, politician and former Speaker of Sweden’s Riksdag.
What are the main local industries?
Collaborations with companies, authorities and organisations are central to Karlstad University. Värmland County is home to a particularly strong cluster of industries in paper and pulp, packaging, steel and engineering, which is reflected in our education and research into materials science, service innovation, bioeconomy, and engineering.
