A Day in the Life of a Lund University Student

Have you ever wondered what a typical day looks like for a master’s student at Lund University? After living and studying here for seven months, I’m excited to share my daily routine with you! If you’re thinking about studying in Lund, this might give you a glimpse of what life here is like.

Morning Routine

Mornings in Lund can be unpredictable—just like the Swedish weather! Most of my classes start at 10 a.m., so I usually wake up around 8 a.m. to have a proper breakfast (going to class hungry is not an option for me!). Depending on my mood, I either read some literature before class or relax by watching a series, anime, or part of a movie.

Before heading out, I always check the weather. Sweden has taught me the importance of dressing appropriately—unless I want to freeze! One fun fact about universities in Sweden is that classes officially start 15 minutes later than scheduled. So, if my class is at 10 a.m., it actually begins at 10:15 a.m. This is called the “academic quarter” (akademisk kvart), and trust me, it’s a lifesaver when you need a few extra minutes!

Since I live close to my faculty, I just walk to class, but many of my friends bike or take the bus. Getting around in Lund is super easy!

The Class Experience

Classes vary depending on the program, but in my research-focused master’s, we have three main types:

Lectures – Optional to attend, and mostly professor-led.
Workshops – Interactive sessions with group work on a specific topic.
SeminarsMandatory! We usually prepare in advance and present in groups.

No matter the type, I always make sure to be prepared! Classes typically last two hours, with a 15-minute break in the middle—perfect for grabbing a quick coffee or just stretching my legs.

Afternoon Activities

After class, the day is full of possibilities! Here are my usual options:

  • Home-cooked lunch – Because, well… student budget!
  • Studying – If I have assignments or a busy week, I head to the municipal library or a cozy café (I prefer studying outside my room—it helps me stay focused).
  • Socializing – Meeting up with friends is a must! Just last week, my classmates and I spent the entire afternoon baking cookies and chatting about life.
  • Enjoying the sun – If the weather is nice (a rare but glorious occasion in Sweden), I have to go outside. Winter can be tough, so I try to soak up the sunlight whenever I can.

Ending the Day

Evenings are my time to recharge. I like to take some time for myself—whether it’s planning for the next day, reflecting, or just unwinding. As an introvert, I need this alone time to regain energy.
And that’s pretty much a typical day for me as a Lund student! It’s a mix of classes, social life, and much-needed personal time. Of course, every day is different, but this routine gives you a good idea of what life here can be like.

What do you think? Would you enjoy a daily routine like this? Let me know in the comments! 😊
